Thanks John, for a lovely 6.5 mile walk from the White Hart pub in Hackleton this morning. Very good food and company.

I have never seen gates anywhere else as wide as these near Dalscote. The windsock in the field is a clue to their purpose, as is Ian pretending to be an aeroplane. Today's walk started rather grey and murky but after a couple of pints of stout in the Towcester Mill Brewery Tap Room the sun came out and everything improved!
The sunshine made today a superb day for walking. Unfortunately the camera can't really do justice to the autumn colours. We timed our coffee stop in Wappenham to see the Young Farmers halloween decorated tractors go past in aid of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and then we met a group of Llama Treckers. The Bartholomew Arms provided welcome refreshment at lunchtime.
We were lucky with the weather for our long weekend in Norfolk, we had some rain but nothing too serious. It was nice to walk somewhere a bit different. The salt marshes were atmospheric and the Cromer crab sandwiches delicious. The shingle walking was a bit tedious at times but more than made up for by the varied scenery and views of the steam train on the North Norfolk Railway
The conditions underfoot were surprisingly good for our walk from Whittlebury. We stopped for a break at the lovely church in Lillingstone Lovell and had lunch at the Wheatsheaf in Maids Moreton for one last time before the pub changes hands next week. I hope that the new owners will be as walker friendly.
In the afternoon we walked past the D Day memorial at Stowe comprising 1475 silhouettes representing British soldiers killed on 6th June 1944, then past Silverstone circuit back to Whittlebury.
Apart from a very wet Sunday morning we had a superb four days walking based in Ashbourne. Some members came and went over the weekend so we had between 7 and 10 walkers on different days. It was nice to visit the tourist honeypot of Dovedale on a Monday when we had it almost to ourselves!
