Rights of Way in Northamptonshire
Reporting Problems
West Northamptonshire and North Northamptonshire councils use a website called Fix my Street which can be used for reporting footpath obstructions and damaged or missing stiles etc. To ensure that the reporting system works properly, when you select the category of the problem make sure that you choose "Rights of Way" rather than "Footway/Footpath". If you get the error message "This area is not under the responsibility of Northamptonshire Highways and therefore we are unable to accept reports in this area / street." then check that you have clicked "Rights of Way" not "Footpath". Click here to go to the Fix my Street website and report a problem.
If you need any advice or help, you can contact the Northamptonshire team of Ramblers Footpath Secretaries using the Contact Us page on this website.
Is it a Right of Way?
The ordnance Survey maps show footpaths, bridleways and byways but to be certain of the actual line of a right of way, or if you want to know whether a particulare track or road is actually a right of way, you can use the national website Find my Street. Zoom in on the area you are interested in and you will see highways in blue. Click on a particular road or footpath and a pop up box will show its status and the identification number of the path which is useful if you are reporting problems.
Alternatively, to view the West Northamptonshire Council definitive map online click here. To view the North Northamptonshire Council definitive map click here. Use the search box to find the village or place you are looking for and click on 'Map Features' then 'Transport and Streets', then tick the box next to 'public rights of way' and 'highways register' (The layout is slightly different on the the two websites).
