Our own food is OK in one of the three pubs at lunchtime. An undulating walk featuring a paper mill and a water mill. Castle ruins offer a possibility after the walk. Walking via Bodicote. Avebury, a walk through the past. Circular Day walk of 12 miles. Car-share from The Turnpike, Harpole Turn, Weedon Road at 07:00 or meet the leader at the start from Avebury, Wiltshire. Park in pay & display off A4361 SU 099696. £5 fee, but free to NT & English Heritage, so bring your card. Do not park in the village car park. Lunch alfresco, but there is a good tea room at the finish of the walk. Binoculars suggested. Expect lots of stopping to investigate things. Finishing at the Avebury Stone Circle to allow people to do their own thing. A superb walk that takes in Silbury Hill, West Kennett Long Barrow, The Sanctuary, Overton Hill and Windmill Hill. Car-share from The Turnpike, Harpole Turn, Weedon Road at 07:00 for a walk starting from Hathersage, parking area on narrow lane near railway bridge (contact us well in advance for guidance if travelling direct). Walgrave Parish Historic Walk. Afternoon walk of 5 miles. 14:00 start from Walgrave Village Hall Car Park SP 801724, with space for 25 cars, no fee. Dogs must be on a lead. Easy evening walk of 3 or 2 miles. 19:00 start from The Chequers, Rothersthorpe SP 716569. Prospective patrons may use the pub's car park. The 2-miles walk uses a conservation walk as a short cut. The 3-miles walk uses The Turnover Bridge on the canal. 10 or 7 stiles. John Tye. 12 walked the 3 miles and finished at 20:20. 8 in the pub afterwards: ales at £1 per pint.

Circular day walk of 13½ miles. Car-share from CS at 08:30 or meet the leader at the 09:45 start from Ashwell Church (Rutland), Cottesmore Road (signposted off Oakham's new by-pass) SK 866138. Park on the verge. Lunch in The Three Horseshoes in Whissendine, where our own food is OK. The walk is via Market Overton, Teigh and Langham, and includes crossing the disused Oakham Canal.
