Stowe Park. Afternoon family walk of a leisurely 5 miles. 14:00 start from the western edge of Chackmore, on Stowe Avenue, 1 mile north of Buckingham SP 684358. Park considerately in Chackmore. Dogs must be on a lead. Mostly surfaced paths and tracks. A walk around Stowe Park (NT) following paths around the parkland boundary, viewing the Capability Brown landscaping. Andrew Marten.
Moon & Stars. Overnight walk of 12 miles. 22:30 start from outside Badby Post Office SP 560590. Park carefully in the village. Lunch al fresco. Bring a torch and warm clothing. A repeat of the November 12th walk. Unsuitable for dogs or children. Bert Jones.

Morning & Afternoon walks (figure-of-8) totaling 12½ miles: morning 7½ miles, afternoon 5. Car-share from CS at 08:30 for a 09:45 start from The Green opposite The Exeter Arms in Barrowden SK 946001. Park in adjacent minor roads or in the lane leading to the church. Our own food is banned in the pub, so eat on The Green. Afternoon walk starts at 14:00 from The Green. Good views of the Welland Valley, Harringworth Viaduct and the villages of Rutland to the north. Wakerley Great Wood is part of the largest remaining tracts of the ancient Rockingham Forest. A few stiles, both morning and afternoon. Clive & Chris Spinney.
Tuesday 22nd May
Yardley Chase. 2-hour evening walk. 19:00 start from the entrance to Yardley Chase near the County Boundary on the B5388 road to Olney, about 1½ miles from A428 SP 874544. Take the track on the right to a parking area. A two-hour guided walk by The Forest Ranger through areas of The Chase with no public access, to observe flora and fauna. Numbers limited, so reserve places ASAP. Fee of £1.50 or less (depending on numbers) payable on the night. See newsletter. Bring binoculars. No dogs please. David Craddock. About 30 walkers had to pay only £1.
Wednesday 23rd May
Morning walk of 7½ miles. 09:30 start from Litchborough, outside the Old Red Lion SP 632543. Park along the road that the pub is in - it is a wide stretch - not in the pub's car park. Pub lunch available after the walk, probably in Bugbrooke. Walking via Upper Stowe and Church Stowe, a pleasant walk over rolling hills, a short stretch along the canal and a little bit of road. Woburn animals and deer. Morning walk of 7½ miles. 10:00 start from Park Street Car Park, Woburn SP 951332. Lunch in Woburn after the walk if wished. Children welcome. Bring binoculars to see the animals. Rosemary Weston. 6 walkers, including a visitor from Leicester, finished at 13:25. 4 of us had a light lunch in Woburn.
Peak District walk of 9½ miles. Takes in Jaggers Clough, Kinder Scout, Grindslow Knoll. Car-share from The Turnpike, Harpole Turn, Weedon Road at 07:00 for a walk starting from Edale Railway Station SK 123853, where there may be a parking fee. Lunch al fresco. Maximum car sharing. Bring full wet-weather clothing, packed lunch and drinks. No dogs please. David Craddock.

Morning & afternoon walks (Figure-of-8): morning 8 miles and 100 metres of climbing, afternoon a leisurely 5 miles. Car-share from CS at 09:10 for a 09:45 start from The Carrington Arms, South Street, Castlethorpe SP 798444. Lunch at The Carrington Arms, where our own food is essential. The morning walk features the Morris Minor graveyard, Haversham, Swan's Way and Hanslope's Church End and has 24 stiles. The afternoon walk starts at 14:00 from The Carrington Arms and features the River Tove, Grand Union Canal and Cosgrove and at least 13 stiles. John Tye. 3 at CS. 8 morning walkers got to the pub at 12:30. 2 went home, but two replaced them for the afternoon.

Circular Day walk of 14½ miles. Car-share from CS at 08:45 or meet the leader at the 09:30 start from Kings Hill Bridge - the layby on the road running east from Syresham towards A43 SP 639414. Lunch outside Mixbury church - no pub, so bring plenty of liquid, especially if the weather is hot. Mainly flat terrain. Graham Edmonds.
Wednesday 6th June
The Weston Amble. Circular Day walk of 14 miles. 09:30 start from the Playing Field, Towcester Road, Greens Norton SP 671500. Park in the playing field car park. Lunch at The Crown, Weston, where pub grub is available, but our own food is banned. As the pub is isolated and does not get many customers during the week it would help if numbers attending the walk could be given to the leader. There will be an emphasis on natural history for those interested. The walk is through pleasantly rolling countryside - mainly pasture. It will also pass though two Northamptonshire stone villages. There will be a morning walk of 4 miles to Lilford to campaign for a footpath link through Lilford Park. Lunch will be taken from 12:00 to 13:00 in Wadenhoe village hall where our own food is OK, tea will be provided. There will be a choice of afternoon walks starting at 13:00 - Lyveden New Bield 7½ miles or Aldwincle 4½ miles.

Park considerately on the road or grass verge. The morning walk starts at 09:45 from outside The King's Head. Lunch at The King's Head, where pub grub is available and our own food is OK in the garden. The afternoon walk starts at 13:45 from the pub. The cream tea will be at 16:15 in the pub. Full details of costs and booking arrangements (by 26th June at the latest) are in the newsletter. No need to book just for the walk. David Craddock. 17 booked breakfast; 16 came. 26 walkers and a dog in the morning escaped the rain and walked quite a bit of The Ouse Valley Walk. About 20 in the pub garden at lunchtime. 31 walkers and a different dog in the afternoon got one short shower of any significance. 26 had cream tea at 16:40 because of so many difficult stiles.

Car-share from The Turnpike, Harpole Turn, Weedon Road at 07:00 for a walk starting from the small layby on B4232 near West Malvern SO 765456. Lunch al fresco, so bring your own food. Maximum car sharing please. Some steep sections. Visit Malvern springs, impressive quarries and all the summits of the north ridge. Steve Sayers. Walking via Podington (Santa Pod). Alec & Doreen Redgrave. 5 at CS. Led by Peter Hawes. 16 walkers and a dog in the morning, 18 in the pub, and 17 (and the dog) in the afternoon. Finished at 15:15, having enjoyed wild cherries and plums and blackberries.

Circular Day walk of 10½ miles. Car-share from CS at 09:00 or meet the leader at the 10:00 start from Bromham Mill, Bromham near Bedford TL 010507. Use the Mill Car Park. Lunch alfresco, but a pub is nearby. Walking via Stagsden, Wootton and Kempston. John Ledger.

Circular Day walk of 10 miles. 09:30 start from the cul-de-sac at the west end of Finmere (was A421 before bypass) SP 633328. Eat our own lunches on Evenley village green, with Red Lion handy. Christine Edwards.

Evening walk of a leisurely 3¼ miles. 19:00 start from the Spread Eagle, Forest Road, Piddington SP 804544. Prospective patrons may use the pub's car park. The walk passes the Roman Villa dig. John Tye. 19 walkers visited the Roman Villa dig, so finished at 20:30. 8 went to The White Hart in Hackleton because The Spread Eagle was closed due to a flooded cellar.

Afternoon walk of 6½ miles. 14:00 start from the bridleway sign at the drive to Haselbech Hill on the road from Cottesbrooke to Haselbech SP 711766. Park on the grass verge. Margaret Kirchmeier.
Valley and Moor. Peak District walk of 14½ miles. Car-share from The Turnpike, Harpole Turn, Weedon Road at 07:00 for a walk starting from Grindleford Station SK 250788. Park near Station Café. Lunch alfresco. Maximum car sharing. Bring full wet-weather clothing, packed lunch and drinks. Takes in Higger Tor, Longshaw Lodge, White Edge and returns via Curbar. No dogs please. Please park considerately. Lunch at the club where our own food is essential. Afternoon walk starts at 13:00 from the club. Morning walking via Eydon and Byfield, afternoon via Charwelton. Peter Hawes. 3 at CS. 15 morning walkers who all went into the club at lunchtime. 10 of them stayed for the afternoon walk, with one other joining just for the afternoon.

Chilterns Red Kite Walk. Circular day walk of 12 miles. Car-share from CS at 08:00 for an approximately 09:15 start from Studley Green Community Centre car park SU 784954. Maximum car sharing please. Lunch alfresco, so bring your own food. Some steep sections. This is the area where Red Kites were re-introduced to the Chilterns. Although this is the moulting season, if the weather is kind we will be unlucky not to have frequent excellent views of these magnificent birds, possibly in surprising numbers. Tuesday 28th August
Morning walk of 7 miles. 09:30 start from Gayton SP 705546. Park in Back Lane away from the village housing. The leader will be directing parking. Walking via Blisworth and Rothersthorpe including canal towpaths and passing the flight of locks on the Northampton Arm of The Grand Union. Tony Bishop.
